General Conference

What a weekend! I was so lucky to spend a few days in Utah for General Conference with my cousin Carol. We made this a no-kids weekend. We had so many memorable experiences that I will never forget. The best part of course was being able to be in the Conference Center for the solemn assembly and sustaining the new Prophet of God and the other leaders and new apostle! It was a neat feeling in that huge room. All of the talks were amazing. I learned a lot and am looking forward to re-reading the talks in the future.
We also had time enough to do a little shopping, eat out, get interviewed and aired on FoxNews TV, catch a flick (Leatherheads), get pulled over by a rookie cop for a stupid reason (turning right into the middle lane with no traffic - no ticket thank goodness!) and spend time with family.
Everyone should have the opportunity to have a friend like Carol, to go to General Conference, to laugh until 2 am like a teenager, to have family as great as mine! What a time to remember.
Here are some things from Conference that stood out to me:
* Eternal Life is a conditional gift - we need to do our part
* If we base our parenting on the scriptures and the prophets, we CAN'T go wrong
* The Lord values ALL his children alike; we need to show more compassion to others
* "Those who never give up will find that God never gave up!"
* The more we give of ourselves, the more our capacity to love grows
* True religion is not what pleases man, but what pleases God
* Miracles are a part of our lives, even though we can't see the end of our own stories
* If we turn to Heavenly Father in faith, He will comfort us and lead us to Him
* We need to pray with the expectation to act and not just express
* Every sincere prayer is received AND answered by God
* We should never lower our standards to have friends, but rather seek friends of integrity
* Life is not for getting and having, it is for giving and becoming
* As we make righteous choices day by day in the little things, the Lord will strengthen us when
we need to make the bigger, more difficult ones.
* We need to live in the moment a little more and treasure the "doing it" and not just the
"getting it done"

So close and yet so far! We were in Duchesne for conference and had to listen to static as well as the speakers but it was a wonderful two days. I love that we can be so close to our leaders and feel that they are just right there and leading us along through our trials and our weaknesses. What a great treasure. I love Maelynn's video! Wow! She is awesome!

Glad you got to go to conference. Remember how we used to dread going, and we'd only go so we could attend the luncheon up on the 26th floor?

Hey, don't you love 'The Book Thief'. It's one of my favorites. How did you hear about it?
