"CARP"E DIEM...

CARPE DIEM = SEIZE THE FISH!

Fishing has been quite unsuccessful this year in Eastern Idaho - especially for the Bailey clan. That is - until we decided to "SEIZE THE DAY" - and I mean "CARPe Diem" big time! (Emphasis on the CARP, er um, perch!)
A few weekends ago, for Greg's birthday - we decided to give those fishing poles another shot! We went out to the Ririe Gravel Pond. On the way there - we had a little "the secret" moment with the kids, telling them that they had to be positive about catching fish and to visualize the fish on the end of the poles. Well, they must have visualized alright - because we were catching so many little bugggers that it was hard to keep up! The crazy part of this story, however, was the SIZE of those CARP. They were sure hungry - but BOY WERE THEY EVER SMALL.
Following are a few pictures from the night - so you can see just how SMALL they were!

Uncle Tom came along for the eventful night as well...

By far the most exciting catch of the night was when Seth reeled in something a little heavier - it was one of the ugliest things ever - a CATFISH! Check it out...

It was a great night - and even though the mosquitos were out in full force trying to fill their blood quota - we still enjoyed the time together on the water's edge makin' memories. Thanks Greg for always fishing with the kids - they LOVE IT!

Jackson would be so jealous. We went fishing this summer and much to his disappointment, we came up with nothing! I guess Idaho is the place to be for catching fish.

Viki,
Loved the photos! That last one especially. Maybe it's because I have about hundred just like it of my kids fishing with their Grandpa Powell. It sure brought back memories.

What cute little fish! I guess little fish are better than no fish. And that catfish really is ugly. :-)

I'm jealous. I've decided (at least during the summers) that I want to move to Idaho.

As much as fish gross me out, there's nothing cooler to a kids than catching one. That's so fun. Ethan caught his first fish this summer! Blake was happy throwing things in the water.

Love it! How come you're not in the pix? ;)
Bet that made some fish fry huh? It would take a couple dozen to make a meal! I don't even know if you can eat carp?!
We haven't held a fishing pole around here for years- except Ken and the scouts of course. But fishing line has so many other uses!

Next time Greg takes the kids, have him grab Drew. He doesn't know the first thing about fishing, but the kids ask him to take them all the time. He would love to go.

Funny that you brought up fishing. We were just talking about when we all went camping/fishing in the BigHorns together and caught fish at that dam. We also tried to choke Maelynn to death too. They were good memories though.

Looks like fun. We went fishing over Labor Day weekend with our friends up in the White Mountains. Dave caught a trout and we grilled it up -- yummy!
